Let's come clean on sugars !

Refined sugar contains none of the trace elements (very low levels of both essential and non-essential minerals) and cofactors necessary for health that unrefined sugar does. These trace elements and cofactors are also useful in helping the body metabolise sugar better. Without them, sugar is just calories.

It is always preferred to take things naturally than refining it. 

Some advantages of rock sugar (mishri)are listed below

· It works as a brain tonic

· Improves Eye Vision

· Removes kidney stones

· Good for throat infection

“According to Ayurveda, rock sugar is a coolant which is known for its Vata and pitta reducing properties. It is healthier than sugar because it is purified naturally and is rich in essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It is believed to have an important vitamin- B-12, which is rarely found in vegetarian food.”

Mishri or Rock sugar is considered good for the eyes when used in combination with fennel seeds and almonds.

Note:

Though rock sugar or mishri is completely harmless it is not advisable for diabetics. It is also high in carbs and may increase weight, therefore take it in limited quantity.
